Guide to visiting the National Historic Glamore site

Families and the history of the Glamore house
The national historic site of Glamore is one of the best places to visit in Belleville. This historic site shares the stories of families who called it at home in an amazing space.
The first family to live in Glanmore House was the Phillips family. Built in 1883, the house was built for JPC Phillips and his wife Harriet. Mr. Phillips was a rich local banker and his wife was a gifted artist. The plot of land that Glamore House was built was inherited by Harriet of his eminent Loyalist of the united Empire family.
Unfortunately, the Phillips family had a child, a boy named Percy but died at 3 years old. Even if they did not have a direct heir to their large field, the Phillips informally informed a young local teenager named Jessie Patterson. Jessie took their last name and continued to go to school and enjoy an exciting life when he returns to Glamore.
Jessie continued to inherit from Glamore House and married a local businessman named Sandford Cetraying Burrows. They then had two daughters, Philippa and Sheila. Their two daughters inherited a passion for Harriet Phillips arts. Philippa has become an established artist, one of his paintings being presented at Queen Elizabeth II.
In turn, Philippa inherited the house and lived there with her husband, Dr. George Vermilyea Faulkner, and their children. Philippa and his children were the last families to reside in Glamore before its sale in 1971.

Become a national historical site and a museum
Glancore house has been designated Canada National Historic Site In 1969. He was appointed because of his extraordinary architecture of the Second Empire. Philippa was the engine of the designation of Glamore. Many say that without it, it is possible that it has not become the benchmark of Belleville, it is today.
In 1971, the building opened its doors as a museum and was now held and managed by the city of Belleville.
To which to expect during the visit of the national historic site of Glamore

A visit to Glanmore house is ideal for families looking for budgetary things to do, as well as others who wish to explore beautiful places and learn more about the building and history of the region.
By walking in its corridors and rooms, I was impressed by the way the building and its furniture seemed given their age. During my guided tour, I learned everything about detailed catering work at Glamore. When you decide to transform it into a museum that presented vintage pieces and what it looked like during the in -depth work of the 1880s. They have washed and stripped of rear paint and wallpaper to go to the original.
Initiate Council: In the breakfast room, behind the staircase on the first floor, there is a small setting. Behind the setting, you can see the different wall coverings that the restaurants had to discover to find the original.

The collections
The articles displayed and housed in GLANMORE are made up of three distinct collections. The main thing is the Phillips-Burrows-Faulkner collection, which encompasses the original family furniture and other articles such as books and art. It is not surprising that many original furniture are always inside because of their massive size.
Part of the art was painted by the Harriet Phillips itself, like the two paintings that flank the stairs when you enter for the first time. I was struck by these two pieces and I quickly fell in love with them when I discovered that Harriet had painted them and that they are Cinderella and his prince charming.

Most works of art and some of the smallest antiques come from the Celkery collection. Bertram and Cecilia Celery were passionate art collectors from British in the late 1800s. A large part of their art -seen art collection in Glamore is mainly made up of dogs and cats. Many of them give off the personality because only animal owners can testify, like the grumpy cat in the small room between the living room and the games room.
Other small artefacts that fill the rooms from the regional collection. This collection is made up of pieces from the Belleville region which date from around 1780 to the present day. These pieces include textiles, toys and tools.

Rooms and details
One of my favorite games to visit Glamore is the exquisite details. In each room, you will want to look around, both from top to bottom. Some bedrooms, such as the living room, have incredibly detailed hand painted ceilings. There are also large ornate woodwork, such as the large central staircase.
Other interesting pieces to keep an eye on toys, such as an ancient stereoscope (the original view master), the dishes and the instruments. As for the rooms, some of the stands for me are the salons, the master bedroom and the library. However, don’t forget to take a look in the bathroom in the master bedroom. It was quite advanced for his day.
