The cramped but comfortable feeling to be surrounded by books always arouses a feeling of house in me. Hatchards – London, England
A list of the best British bookstores would not be complete without naming the oldest London bookstore, Hatchards, which was created in 1797. Located in the heart of the city, in 187 Piccadilly, you cannot miss its green awnings and its classic store. As soon as I entered, I was immediately attracted by table screens with humorous signs like the one above. Extending five floors beautifully arranged with a beautiful and original wooden balustrade staircase, you could easily spend hours covering its selection. I was charmed by looking at the different black and white photos suspended along its walls showing a splash store through the ages.
My favorite place was the house of a comfortable sofa sitting in front of a window overlooking the streets of London. I could gladly face up there to browse a book or simply dip in the rich smell of books and knowledge.
MINSTER GATE – York bookstore, England
