I am a huge horror film that grew up devouring the novels of the spine of Stephen King and their adaptations to the screen. When it is the first chapter, the new computer film was released in 2017 and I learned that a large part of it was filmed in my own Ontario province of Ontario, I was more excited! So, I left to explore all the computer filming locations in Ontario.
The new computer film (chapter one) and chapter two have been mainly filmed in various places in southern Ontario. Most of the shooting of the new computer film was in Port Hope, Chapter one and chapter two. Other places in Ontario that have been used for new computer filming places include Toronto, Hamilton and Elora.
So, if you are a fan of Stephen King like me, this Guide to Top IT Film Locations in Ontario that you can visit is for you! In addition to sharing locations where the film was the film, I put in place locations of funny films in the Ontario menu for a road trip inspired by the horror film!
Take popcorn, try not to leave Pennywise in your dreams, and let’s explore frightening places where it was filmed in Ontario.
Where was it filmed in Ontario?
The new computer film, also known as chapter one, as well as chapter two, has seen most of the shooting take place in Port Hope. The small town was transformed into Derry.
Other filming locations for the film he was in Toronto, Pickering and Hamilton. Some popular places include Elora’s career and the covered bridge of West Montrose.
It films the locations in Port Hope
The whole city of Port Hope has been transformed into Derry. Through the city center, the panels have been changed and things were added to present Port Hope like this little frightening little town in America from Stephen King. You will find below my best choices for the best places in Port Hope to visit which will allow you to enter the film.

Commemorative park
In the heart of the city center of Port Hope is Memorial Park. The park is a popular place for residents and visitors. And it’s the house to one of my favorites Things to do in Port HopeThe outdoor manufacturers market that has everything, from tasty treats to hand goods locally.
Memorial Park is also one of the many computer filming locations in Port Hope for Chapter 1 and 2! It was here that the emblematic scene of the 20 -foot statue of Paul Bunyan was held. The scene features the losers’ club relaxing at a picnic table near the statue. I always remember the scene when they show a Pennywise sitting at the top of the statue!
Another highlight in the park, the Bandshell is also in it. Built in 1946, the Bandshell has a classic look and was a backdrop for the scenes of the Derry Canal Festival.

Alley off Walton Street
One of the best shooting locations in Port Hope which gave me frightening vibrations was the alley of Walton Street. The alley is between Walton Street and Brogdens Lane, next to the Schuuz shoe store.
The alley was in the film while she was standing next to the Queson Meats store (which is actually Schuuz). It houses the door of the path of quality meat and a mural that represents the history of Derry. The two rooms were added to the city during the shooting and still remain.
The door and the alley do a fun photo session!

Port Hope town hall
One of the most striking buildings in the city is the town hall in Port Hope. Standing two floors high and covered with red brick, it was built in 1853. However, after a fire, only its walls remained and were rebuilt in 1893. The building is surmounted by an octagonal dome which has a clock and a bell.
The exterior of the town hall was used there as Derry public library. However, the interior plans of the library were filmed in various places in Toronto. These include the University of Toronto and the Masonic temple of West Toronto. The latter is the place where the scene when Pennywise continues Ben through the archives has been shot.

Ganaraska river
Many photos of the river in the film were shot along the Ganaraska river in Port Hope. This beautiful river crosses the city center and Lake Ontario. It is also one of the best places to see the migration of salmon in Ontario.
The film’s river, which appears in many books by Stephen King, is supposed to be Kenduskeag’s river in Maine. However, IT films rather use the Ganaraska river.

Capital Theater
Another remarkable attraction in Port Hope. Built in 1930, this classic building Art Deco was originally a cinema. In the 1990s, it was renovated and was now a film arts and center of the show.
The Capitol Theater was elements in chapters 1 and 2. The exterior is used as Derry cinema. A classic scene in IT Chapter 2 is when the adult loser club considers itself as boys reflected in the window.
Even the interior of the theater is presented as an arcade where boys drag. Strangely, part of the theater hall is the center of visitors to Port Hope and appeared as the Derry Chamber of Commerce.
Initiate Council: Head inside the theater to visit the visitors center to take a copy of the brochure of the IT visit.

Carlyle hotel
The Carlyle hotel is a great place to visit and stay in Port Hope. This superb charm hotel was built in 1857 as a branch by Bank of Upper Canada. I loved my stay there when I visited and I liked dinner in their restaurant!
The outside of this historic building was used as a townhouse in Derry in Chapter 2, where the losers club remained. A scene in the film is when Richie, as an adulthood, flees a window of the building after a fear late at night. To see the window, take a look at the west side of the hotel is a superior window.
More filming places in Ontario

West Montrose covered bridge
One of the most historic and romantic TI filming locations in Ontario is the covered bridge of West Montrose. Built in 1881, it was also known as Pont de Kiser and is the last covered bridge in the province. Located in the Waterloo region, this is one of the many Hidden gems in the region. Extending at 200 feet, the red bridge crossed the powerful Grand river.
The covered bridge of West Montrose appears in the first chapter where Henry Bowers and his gang intimidated Ben.
Funny fact: The bridge is also in another horror film, in the mouth of madness, from the 1990s.
Rouge National Urban Park
Noted as one of the Top Parks in TorontoRouge National Urban Park is also one of the largest urban parks in North America. Extending from the shores of Lake Ontario to Stouffville, it is home to many hiking trails.
If you are looking for places to visit near Toronto where it was filmed, this is the ideal place! The majority of the scenes where the children dragged in the barns, a Woody park, were filmed in the Rouge national urban park.
Funny fact: Red National Urban Park is more than 20 times larger than Central Park in New York!
Elora career
In addition to being one of Best places to visit in EloraThe Elora Quarry was one of the many locations of computer films in Ontario! This superb old career is now a protected conservation area. The Elora career is a popular place in summer thanks to its superb 40 -foot limestone cliffs and its Caribbean blue swimming hole.
As mentioned above, many scenes that took place in the barns have been filmed in the Rouge national urban park. But an extended scene is filmed at Elora’s career, where the group jumps out of the cliff and in the water.
Whitevale farm
A location for filming obscure films in Ontario that will try pure and hard fans is the Whitevale farm. Located at 1690 Whitevale Road in Pickering, this old unpretentious farm was the place where a nasty scene in the computer film was shot.
The Whitevale farm is the place where Pennywise said, Henry draws his father’s throat. Although a horrible scene, the old farm is in a picturesque setting in the middle of nowhere. In addition, this is not the first time it has been presented. It was also in the Hannibal show, just like Graham’s house.

By ending your trip through the filming places of strange and emblematic information in Ontario, it is clear that these spots are not only an essential visit for horror fans, but also to seek a new perspective on familiar places.
